EOPS Second Chance Summer Bridge is a one-week intensive program limited to a select group of potential EOPS Second Chance students, who are formerly incarcerated and/or in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. Research shows that participants of the Summer Bridge program have higher rates of course completion and graduation rates, and reduction in recidivism rates. The Summer Bridge program is limited in capacity, and priority is given to students on a first-come, first-served basis.

The program is designed to serve the unique needs of students who are formerly incarcerated and/or in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.  The Summer Bridge Program offers intensive academic preparation, highly individualized academic advising and enrichment programs in an intensive, yet nurturing environment during one week prior to the college’s summer session. The program provides students with basic college success strategies; goal settings and time management, memory and concentration, lecture note taking, textbook studying and test taking. Participants will also learn assertiveness techniques in a variety of situations, including communication with family, friends, and at the workplace are a major focus.

Participants have an excellent opportunity to reinforce their academic skills, cultivate a peer support network, and become acclimated to the demands of college life. Summer Bridge students will earn 2 units of CSU transferable credit courses.  Also, Summer Bridge Program students will also receive counseling guidance on course selection, career planning, and progress towards fulfilling degree requirements during this one-week summer program.
