San Francisco ILSP improves lives of current and former foster youth with promising new model and provider First Place for Youth but some dislike the change

Claudia Mendez spent many of her high school days fighting her mom in a court room. At age 16, San Francisco placed Claudia into a foster home. Even in a bad situation, Claudia realized that she was able to advocate for herself. She found her way to San Francisco’s Independent Living Skill Program (ILSP) on Valencia street, where she took advantage of the program’s college-prep, scholarship support, and college fair. The Asian Art Museum’s Art Speak internship engages youth through an art, education, and job preparedness program featuring a dynamic learning environment, real-world museum experience, interview skill building, and arts education practice. Jewish Vocational Services (JVS) is recruiting low-income 17-21 year-olds for its Healthcare Bridge training and paid internship program

San Francisco’s youth workforce program, Jewish Vocational Service‘s Healthcare Bridge Program (HCB) is a yearlong academic program providing 17 – 21 year olds with targeted career guidance, academic support, postsecondary education preparation, and paid internships in the healthcare field.
