Civicorps is recruiting 30 young men and women who are between the ages of 18-24 years old and want a high school diploma and paid job training.
Orientation for Civicorps will be held April 14, 2014- April 18, 2014 from 8am- 3pm Monday- Friday. If you successfully complete this one week orientation, being on time and staying attentive–then you will be a part of the Civicorps Learning Academy.
All youth applicants for Civicorps need to bring the following documents to 101 Myrtle St. Oakland, CA 94607 in West Oakland:
· Completed Civicorps Corpsmember Academy App
· Birth certificate
· Social security card
· California ID
· Immunization record, and
· A copy of their high school transcript
Interviews will be scheduled with applicants (who have all five of the required documents) March 24, 2014- April 11, 2014.
Beginning on April 21, 2014, students will spend a total of 16 weeks of academic enrichment from 8am- 3pm Monday- Thursday and Friday’s from 8:30am- 12:30pm for community meetings and seminars, which may include English and Math CAHSEE prep.
Civicorps Learning Academy students will learn the importance of attending class on time, being able to cope with stressful situations or distractions that can get in the way of a student’s process, as well as receiving support from the Case Counselors for those students who may have other obstacles or barriers preventing them from being successful.
After students have successfully completed their 16 weeks of Learning Academy, they will be promoted to the Job Training Center for their paid training. They will then participate in a number of environmental improvement projects throughout various communities within the greater Bay Area, as well as formal classroom instructions.
Corpsmembers work on environmental improvement projects from 7:30am to 3:45pm Monday -Thursday. In addition, corpsmembers attend classes in the evenings from 4:00pm- 6:00pm twice a week (Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday) and on Fridays from 8:30am- 12:30pm for community meetings and seminars.
