Since 1973, the Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) has been dedicated to asset building, ultimately improving the economic and social conditions of San Francisco’s Latino community and the Mission District. Every family holds dreams for increased opportunity and a legacy for the next generation. MEDA can make those dreams a reality via free programs available in English and Spanish, with workshops and one-on-one consultations available.
Bank Teller Program
In this free 10-week training program, participants learn customer service skills before devoting six weeks to learning the skills required for a teller position in any financial institution. Graduates of the program receive a $500 stipend, plus ongoing placement and retention services. Graduates who achieve employment can leverage their bank teller position as a gateway to other positions with a bank.For flyer, click here.
Mission Techies
In this free 12-week training program, participants learn IT essentials of hardware, software, networking and coding, plus how to provide tech support to low-income families. Graduates of the program receive a $500 stipend, job-readiness training, professional skills, ongoing placement, retention services, college prep and knowledge of how to enroll in post-secondary education. This program is a vital entry point for low- and moderate-income young adults to access San Francisco’s technology sector, which experienced 57% growth over the last three years.
In this free eight-week program, participants master the customer service skills needed to prepare for San Francisco retail/customer service careers. The course incorporates digital literacy and various technology tools into the curriculum, which ensures the long-term relevancy of the program. As customer service jobs are expected to grow 13% nationwide, adding approximately 298,700 jobs by 2022, this industry will be a reliable entry point to employment for years to come.
