The Briger Service Excellence Fellowship is a summertime Fellowship for young adults who are interested in working with underserved communities and are eager to gain an understanding of the importance of providing high quality, culturally sensitive health care for pediatric patients and their families.

Briger Fellows will assist in the design and implementation of a quality improvement or service excellence project that is intended to improve the quality of the patient and families’ experience at the ZSFG. Through a competitive selection process, we will identify three Fellows who will work during the summer and be mentored and supervised by the Pediatric Quality Improvement team as well as the physician leaders of each clinical unit.

Opportunities for clinical shadowing as well as participation in the educational program will be available. Examples of previous projects include a patient survey regarding the discharge process from our neonatal nursery, development of an informational brochure for both our outpatient clinic and inpatient pediatric unit, and research into patient and nursing perceptions regarding family-centered rounds.

This fellowship contributes significantly to our service excellence activities.

Candidates will be interviewed in April 2016 and will receive notification in May 2016.

The Fellowship dates are June 6- July 29, 2016 and each Briger Fellow will receive a stipend of $2500 for 8 weeks (320 hours) of service.
