The Central American Resource Center—CARECEN—of Northern California in San Francisco will launch August 2013 a new leadership program for youth who have applied for temporary legal status under the federal government’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program.
CARECEN provides vital direct services and engages in community development and advocacy to help create a vibrant and thriving Latino immigrant community in San Francisco, the Bay Area, and beyond.
The year-long leadership program will help a cohort of young people explore their individual history, family heritage, and culture; learn about community development and the environmental factors shaping community health and well-being; prepare them for lifelong success by building their skills in financial planning and budgeting, educational and career planning, and community organizing and advocacy; and learn the arts of narrative development and video production.
